Second Sunday in Advent: Peace
Jesus entered a fearful world, one filled with rampant oppression, economic disparity, uncertainty, and instability. A world not so unlike our own. And yet, throughout the stories of Christ’s birth, we hear the whispers of angels delivering a surprising message: “Do not fear.” Join us as we insist on hope and trust that good news is greater than fear! If you can’t make it in person, you can watch on YouTube, Facebook, or Zoom.
The music today lights the Advent season. To start the service there is an organ prelude, composed by renowned 20th century J.S. Bach organ scholar, Helmut Walcha. There are three settings of a favorite Advent hymn, “Come Thou Long-Expected Jesus”. There are also two songs that emphasize this year’s theme for Advent: What Do You Fear? The song used for candle lighting is “Show Up”. The second song is being sung during the Communion time: “There is Longing”. We will end our service with a song written in 1955 and sung by all of the generations in the last 70 years, “Let There be Peace on Earth” - perfect for PEACE Sunday! The lyricist reminded us that , “the only way we can have peace in our world is to start with peace in ourselves.” LIFT YOUR VOICES!!!
